“Liz’s muesli in a jar is a small piece of home you can carry around… It will make the sun shine on your day and keeps bad mood away!” MaDAlicE
I decided to start my trip through Europe by visiting Liz an old friend of mine who studies and lives in Bonn, Germany. During the 3 days I spend at her, she showed me a wonderful recipe of Muesli, which can be prepared the night before and allows you to lazy in bed just a little more… Here is her recipe…
What you will need:
. Oat flakes
. Fresh and/or dried fruits (you can try all kind of combinations here)
. Coconut flakes (it’s not a must, but it just tastes super yummy!)
. Yogurt (you can use soja yogurt to make it vegan, whichever yogurt you like will do the trick)
. Milk (same goes as for the yogurt, you can do this recipe only with yogurt but if you prefer milk, you can completely replace the yogurt with milk)
. Nuts (for me it’s always hazelnuts)
. Chocolate chips (if you want to make it decadent)
. Some jam or marmalade to sweet it up
. A clean large jar
. 5 minutes patience (this time you don’t need too much!)
How to do it:
The secret of this recipe lays in the layering and the choice of ingredients to have the combination that suits you best.
-> Yogurt Muesli:
. Layer 1: Yogurt
. Layer 2: Oat flakes
. Layer 3: Coconut flakes
. Layer 4: Fruits
. Layer 5: Nuts
. Layer 6: Yogurt
. Layer 7: Oat flakes
. Layer 8: Fruits
. Layer 9: Nuts
. Layer 10: Jam or marmelade
-> Milk Muesli:
. Layer 1: Oat flakes
. Layer 2: Coconut flakes
. Layer 3: Milk
. Layer 4: Fruits
. Layer 5: Nuts
. Layer 6: Oat flakes
. Layer 7: Milk

For the amounts of each layer, it is really up to you and the size of your jar.
What I love in this recipe is that you can really try out pretty much everything you like and change it everyday. It is now my official travel breakfast, I will keep you up to date with which combination I try.
Let me know what you like and which combinations you tried.
Bonn appétit!
